RECENT NOTICE
Notice posted - December 07 2023
This year's AGM on November 30th welcomed two new officers. Gisella Meraldi was elected as Chair. Gisella took over from Peter Wing Young who stepped down after many years of wonderful service to the club, steering it through some tricky situations. Karin Erdmann took over as Secretary from Lucy Hartley who also made a huge contribution, establishing our systems for liaising with our friends at Premier Tennis and with the Lawn Tennis Association, for example, and generally keeping everyone on their toes. We also welcomed three new committee members, Ellen Wu, Paul Hastings, and Susan Waldron,
Financially, the Norham Gardens club is on a solid basis, making a small surplus in 2023, and with a record high membership of 165. This should set us in good stead for an exciting 2024, as we look forward to installing a new clubhouse. City Council officers suggested demolishing the existing green buildings, leaving space for Norham Gardens to build a clubhouse. With the help of members, we have raised funds from a community trust and have chosen a design and builder. All we need now is for the Council to deliver on their offer and clear the space, and we could be able to go ahead next Spring.
Great progress too on the playing side. The Ladies A team was promoted in both the Summer and Winter leagues. And we now have Ladies B team that has established itself in the league, only narrowly missing promotion in its first year. The Men's A team had a stellar winter and summer seasons, achieving promotions to premier and first divisions respectively.
Gisella, also made an impact on court, not just in the Ladies A team but also in winning the club's ladies singles competition. Congratulations too to Milos Martinez who won the men's singles, and to Benjamin Bai and Virginia Tite who triumphed in the always hotly contested mixed doubles.
